This shot of the Palouse, in eastern Washington state, was taken near sunset, in late August, 2017. At the time, there were numerous wildfires in the western US, blanketing the region in a smokey haze. On this day, the sun was only able to cast a few distinct shadows on the hills because of the smoke, but the light that was cast, had a definite golden hue.
